Homecoming

Now that I've finally had a chance to sit down and look at all the pictures from the Bulldogs' Homecoming, I can share my absolute favorites.

We are, of course, so overjoyed and grateful to have our family back together again after nearly 7 long months. I want to send out special thanks to Chip, Meat and Ashley, Carrie, Reena, and especially Emily Pancost Photography for capturing such a joyous event for our family.

This week there's a bit less on See The Savings. Den is home on his R&R so I am spending a lot more time with him and a lot less time couponing. I did manage to squeeze in trips to CVS and Walgreens while he was busy doing some yard work.

CVS

My trip to CVS this week was super successful. The full retail value of the items above that I purchased was $44.88. Here's a breakdown of what I bought and how I saved.

I used $17.00 worth of ExtraCare Bucks from a previous trip and paid a whopping $0.53 for everything pictured above plus got $10.00 to use next time, for a savings of 98.8%!

Walgreens

I didn't have QUITE as successful a trip at Walgreens as I did at CVS, but it would be hard to duplicate those savings! I did have a 15% Shopping Pass that was emailed to me for being a rewards card member. Total retail value was $70.78. Here's the breakdown.

6 Weeks

Six weeks since my last blog post. Bad Sarah...No cookie! Here's a quick photo montage of March and the beginning of April.

Paige and I made a quick stop at the Heritage Conference at DM. See those legs on the ladder? That's John Cowart and he and I went to high school together.

We had the privilege of joining the Duerkop Dynamos in this year's MDA walk at Reid Park. Little Sam is one of the sweetest, spunkiest kids I've ever met. Those girls had to hustle to keep up with him!

A new man-toy arrived at Casa de Haggis, despite the fact that the resident man is thousands of miles away

Summer's school held their annual Young Readers' Celebration. This is Summer reading some of her stories to her Book Buddy, Macee.

Our indoor cat, Gidget has started making a break for it every time the back door opens. She runs outside, rolls in the dirt as fast as she can, and then eats grass. I have more pics on my phone, so I will post those later

Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan made a special appearance at DM in support of all the deployed families here. He put on a great show and is a real class act. It was awesome.

 My momma came to visit!!!

Mom went home on Easter Sunday, so the girlies and I attended the later Gospel Service on base. It was definitely a divergence from what we are used to, but it was a lot of fun.

While not the sea of daffodils and azaleas that we had for Easter last year, I DID manage to find some flowers for Easter pictures.

Not pictured are the pics from Summer's birthday. We had a very low-key family celebration because she decided to postpone her birthday party until Den could come home to make her cake. The pics are on my phone, so they will have to come later.

Our biggest announcement and the reason for the change of scenery on the Blog is that Den is due home next week!!! Hooray!!! Happy Dance!!!

A Back Story

I am re-posting this from a few years ago as a back story for a soon-to-be published post that I am working on. Many of you know this story, some of you don't.

Capt Dennis Hargis, A-10 Pilot 

   

On October 14, 2007, HAWG 05, a flight of A-10s led by Captain Dennis Hargis, was returning from a mission in southern Afghanistan. He was alerted to an active troops in contact (TIC) situation nearby. Captain Hargis told the controller HAWG flight was available but low on gas. Despite possessing only 20 minutes of fuel and with no refueling tanker close by, but with troops in desperate need of help, Captain Hargis directed HAWG flight to engage the enemy. As the flight arrived at the scene, a 10-vehicle convoy from the Army’s 82d Airborne Division was taking withering fire from both sides of the road they were patrolling. The Soldiers were struggling with numerous severely wounded personnel. Pinned down and unable to move to a medevac helicopter four miles away, the Soldiers’ situation was grim. Though the Soldiers did not have a Joint Terminal Attack Controller to direct CAS responses, Captain Hargis was able to make contact with the convoy, and the ground commander eagerly granted permission for HAWG flight to engage the enemy at ranges dangerously close to the convoy’s position. Captain Hargis assumed full responsibility for target identification, collateral damage, and, most importantly, protection of the Soldiers. Captain Hargis and his wingman then aggressively engaged the enemy with their A-10s’ 30mm cannon, punishing the enemy with devastating effects and decisively turning the tide of the fight on the ground. Though several Soldiers sustained serious injuries from enemy action, they all are alive today thanks to Captain Hargis’ remarkable heroism.

It's The Broncs And The Blood. It's The Steers And The Mud....

Fiesta de los Vaqueros!! Otherwise known as the Tucson Rodeo. I love rodeos, I always have. While the Tucson Rodeo lacks some of the hooplah of say Houston or San Antonio, there was plenty of action. The girls and I went on Saturday afternoon with several other ladies from the squadron. We had a great time. I can't believe we didn't get a group picture, but I did get a lot of great rodeo action pics. have I mentioned how much I love my camera?

 It was decidedly not this cowboy's day. That bull just kept coming back for more.

The bull fighters had to be one of my favorites. These guys have to be just a little bit crazy.

Today the girlies and I joined the Hearts Apart group for their monthly outing along with some other gals from the squadron. This month they went to the Reid Park Zoo. Any of you who know us know that we love the zoo. We are annual pass holders and we go every chance we get. The animals must sense that spring is in the air or something, because today they were a smiley bunch.

 The young elephants were wrestling around and having a big ole time. Look at all those smiling faces!

While some animals were all smiles, others were all show-offs. 

The girls even got in some interaction with the local wildlife followed by a liberal dollop of Purell. Thanks Laura! Den was super excited about this one.

My favorite part of the day, however, came when we got to see the jaguar enrichment program. The zoo's jaguars, Nikita and Simone are 17 year old sisters and they are pretty much always asleep. It was so cool to be able to see them up and active in their enclosure.
