Today was Summer's birthday party. After watching WAY too many episodes of Ace of Cakes, she decided that for her birthday cake she wanted a monkey sitting on a pile of bananas and holding a sign that said Happy Birthday Summer all made of rice krispy treats. Dennis took on the challenge (that will be a separate post altogether) and we designed a low-key eco-concious party around the cake. We used biodegradable plastic cups and utensils, held the party outside so the kids got plenty of fresh air and beautiful spring sunshine, and sent each child home with a flower that they planted themselves instead of a plastic bag full of more plastic.
Welcome to Summer's Party! (I know, I know. Balloons are not exactly eco-friendly, but to me it just doesn't feel like a birthday party without balloons.)
