Apple Annie's

Saturday after cheerleading practice, the girls and I, plus a couple of friends, loaded up in the car and headed to Apple Annie's in Wilcox for the afternoon. It was a BEAUTIFUL day. We got to the farm and were immediately engulfed by the smell of fresh baked apple pie. Drool. Somehow we managed to resist the pie and we grabbed our buckets and headed out into the orchard.

The apples were REALLY picked over. We didn't get a single good one. Note to self for next year, go earlier! Summer and her friends Deonna still had a great time trying to find a good one.

While a pretty picture, these apples were too small to pick

Since the apples were a bust, we headed over to the Asian pear orchard and were able to fill our buckets with sweet dee-licious pears.

After we finished up with the pears, we got back in the car and headed down the most rutted-out road I have ever been on (for those of you who know what I am talking about, it made Reddington Pass look like an interstate) and headed over to the pumpkin patch

Paige, being Paige, found the pumpkin that she wanted right away, but then had to continue to scour the patch just in case.

Told you it was a beautiful day!

Finally all the girls had their pumpkins

On the way out was the most beautiful field of sunflowers. Sunflowers are Summer's favorite flower, so we had to stop for some pictures.

How great is this idea? Instead of sand, these boxes are filled with feed corn! The kids had a blast playing in it.

I can't wait to find recipes to use up all of our pears! I am going to start by putting some in the food dehydrator so I can share our trip to the orchard with Den. Then I am thinking a pear tart may be in order!
